Silent Movies

We had the great privilege to go to see "The Big Parade", (a silent movie made in 1925 about the First World War), at the Philarmonie, with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg playing the music!!!

Within minutes you had completely forgotten it was a silent movie and were completely engrossed.

It was a real honour to see it done so well, and we got to experience it with Mum, Dad, Marty's Mum and Dad, Mike and some other friends of Marty's parent, Dave and Tanya.

A wonderful experience!

Strasbourg 29th Feb - 2nd March

We were meant to go to La Petite-Pierre on Thursday but as my car failed it's MOT we did not get to leave until Friday.... but we got there in the end, and the hotel very kindly changed the reservation free of charge to the following night.

We had loved La Petite Pierre so much last time that we just had to go back. This time the weather was not quite so good, nor was the food, but the hotel was lovely "Aux Trois Roses", and the village just as beautiful. Marty even thinks he found the World's SMallest Bannister! The only downside was that the artisinal shop we wanted to go to didn't open until the end of March. So.... we will have to go back again!!!! What a shame!!!!!

On Saturday morning we drove down to Strasbourg to meet up with an old friend of Martin's and her boyfriend, (who is French, hence why she is living in Strasbourg). We had cups of tea and chats and then drove into the centre of Strasbourg.

We had lunch in a not so good restaurant, (which had been wonderful last time Marty went), but we then went on the boat trip around the town. It was really incredible. The old wall, the prison, and the houses really are quite something with all the tiny windows in the attics.

After the boat trip we walked around town and the went to the Irish bar and drank Guinness!!!

Then back to the village where Cat and Gilles live, and then off out to dinner. We went for typical Alsacian food, biblskas and tarte flambes. It was absolutely superb and more than made up for lunch.

Sunday morning we woke up early and Marty went to the shed to chop the fire wood to warm us up. After breakfast we went for a walk around the forest and then set off home. The weather was atrocious and the drive back was not much fun!
